Best BBQ Food Recomendations, the good, the bad & the aweful!

Options
Soooo......... I'm hosting a BBQ for 15 friends as a surprise for my wifes birthday on Sunday evening.

People are bringing various dishes that I have asked them too and I am providing the meat, condiments, buns etc.

I'm actually a 'changed' vegetarian from a year or so ago so my meat knowledge is limited! (I didn't like the tast from being a baby)

So, any advice on good quality meats, chicken, etc that I can purchase for this would be great.

Thanks in advance :)

Sorry to state the obvious (though perhaps it isn't obvious for you, being a recently ex-veggie) but do you have a local butcher? The taste and texture of the meat you will buy there is likely to be much better quality than any you will buy in a supermarket, and also, as you're a bit of a "meat novice", the butcher will be able to give you good advice like what are the best-value cuts of meat for what you need them for.

Wow, you wouldn't believe it but I didn't even think about the butcher! Indeed we have one in our village. As you say, being a veggie, I haven't been into a butchers since I was a child with my parents! Will check it out tomorrow! Many thanks!

Get the butcher to cut what you need !
They will be happy to cut 15 x 6 oz steaks ! Some of the supermarkets would not have a person who knew how to cut a steak I bet :rotfl:

for 15 people I would suggest just 2 types of meat rather than 4-5 different ones that would may be take ages to cook and get right !

As it's comming into summer & the air is going to be full of the smell of bbq coals & charred fleshy things,I thought it time we had a thread where we could list the best & the worst of the supermarket bought ready BBQ products.

    First off,one to avoid.

The Tesco Mini Lamb Cutlets (£2.00 a pack of 4) they have the consistancy of pate & they taste nothing like lamb! You'd be better off eating the box they came in!

    One to get!

Tesco 6 Lamb Meatball Kebabs with Green peppers.
Big,meaty looking balls of firm lamb meat with green peppers.

At my local Tesco they have a Halal meat counter/butcher, instead of the normal deli, and their handmade kebabs of marinated chicken chunks and onions and peppers are very tasty. The chucks of chicken are huge, maybe too big for the BBQ but are very nice in the oven and finished off on the BBQ. They do them with various marinates.

LOL!!!! As I was reading the title of this post, I immediately brought to mind this very item as one to avoid!!!! I bought them last week thinking they were a bargain for a quid, but when I ate them I thought they were VILE! Did not taste of lamb (did not taste of anything really) and the fat that dripped out of them was just obscene!!
