Query regarding sky and dish connection

On my old sky box I had one connection on the back of the box to fit the cable from the dish - no probs

I've just acquired a replacement sky box and see that this box has 2 dish inputs and the diagram in the instruction manual shows them both being used whilst connected up to a mini dish.

The dish I am using is a 3 metre plus with only one cable connection. Question can I merely connect up the cable to either one of the two input connectors or do I need some kind of adaptor ?

Which make/model of Sky Receiver is it?

Details will be on the bottom of receiver.

I have never come across a standard Sky Receiver with 2 cable entries. are you sure it isn't a Sky = Receiver?

Anyway, it should work OK with just one feed.

Where are you, Cyprus or the Canaries with a 3 m dish?;)
  • You caught me out - yes i'm in the Canaries

The box i've just gotten hold of is a Sky + TDS470NB- does that help ??

Lucky you:cool:, yes that is a Sky + Receiver, but only one cable feed required to function as a standard receiver.

Your best option is a Pace 2600 standard Sky Receiver for the very best tuner reception, but they are hard to find these days, they really pull in the weak signals very well, better than any other Sky Receiver.

I dont think it will work because at our old house we had sky plus and in the new house there was just a standard cable for a standard box and i couldnt get it to work on our sky plus box, when the sky man came he took out the standard cable and replaced it with a double one
  • Thanks Inactive, can you just put my mind at rest that I merely "plug in" the satellite cable to either input and I will be OK ? - the reason I can't experiment myself now as currently i'm in the UK enjoying some duller and wetter weather !!

Yes just plug the cable in, but as I advised earlier, if you can find a standard Sky Receiver, model Pace 2600 get one, it will function far better on a weak signal than any other make or model of Sky Receiver.

You do realise that the recording function of the Sky + Receiver will not function without paying a Sky Subscription ??

The reason for the two inputs is so that you can watch one programme and record another or record to programmes. To do that you will need a new dish with two LNBs for the two inputs.
Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam
  • Inactive - yes, I do realise I won't be able to record without a sky subscription - it bothers me not. I have seen a few Pace 2600 boxes on sale on ebay but now that I have just acquired this replacement box I intend taking it out next time and seeing how it performs.

My community are having a booster fitted to our community dish so we should/may be able to drag in quite a few stations. Anyway - thanks for your input one and all

Not entirely correct...You can use the existing dish but swap the single LNB for a Quad LNB.You can get these here:

You cant get a double feed LNB,you were able to for the old Analogue systems but not the Digital in use today.

There is no such thing as an analogue or digital LNB. Some of the very old LNBs were tied to frequencies that are no longer used, and are therefore useless with a digital signal, apart from that they are the same.
Just the same as a terrestrial TV aerial - no such thing as analogue or digital - if it covers the right frequencies, it will work.
