Too many idiots on the road!

DH wants me to do driving lessons, but im not so sure I want to anymore.

There are just so many idiots on the road, I dont know if its just us that attract them or if we are just unlucky, a few examples

Last year DH was driving home from work, entered a roundabout at the same time as a woman to the left of him, she took the first exit, must have realised it was the wrong one the swerved back into the round about, hitting DH, sending him spinning across the round about, then she drove off.

Last month, on the motorway in the fast lane doing the speed limit when this idiot in his fancy !!! car came steaming up behind us, flashing his headlights, beeping the horn at us, when DH wouldn't move into the next lane the idiot undertook us, opened his window and called DH a w*nker (with his hand) then drove off, within 15 seconds you couldn't see him ahead.

This weekend just gone, FIL was driving, a bridge round the corner from us has a single lane road running under it, going up the hill you have priority, we were going up the hill, with a car on the other side waiting to come through, the car infront of us passed the woman on the other side, then she set off, came speeding through taking out FILs wing mirror, she didnt stop.

Again this weekend, driving on a two lane road, the lane at the right of us stopped a bit further up due to road works, as we were nearing the part where the right lane stops this idiot in his chavved up car comes racing up the right hand lane, swerves straight in front of DH causing him to hit the brakes, then has the cheek to stick fingers up, then as we carried on driving down the road behind him, he kept hitting on the brakes, making DH brake, during all this (long busy road) I spotted he had a young child in the back.

There have been more than this but I cant possibly list them all, im just wondering, is it really worth learning to drive with so many idiots on the road or are we just really unlucky?

Pull over and let them past then.

Most situations you can anticipate, others you can react. That's life.

You've had more bad experiences with driving than I have had in 16years!

The above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Please don't be offended if that opinion differs from yours, but feel free to click the 'Thanks' button if it's at all helpful!

If there was nothing in the second lane, as he undertook you, why were you in the third?

    To put it in perspective...

As a lorry driver, I was doing up to 2500 miles a week most weeks for about 12-13 years. Since I got my provisional car licence some <cough> twenty three years ago, I've had 7 accidents. 5 of them were minor ones (knocking off wing mirrors etc) in the first year of me driving and my fault - mainly due to being 17 and driving like a muppet. From the age of 18/19, I've had two - one at a T-Junction where someone ran into the back of me, another when I was stopped behind a bus and someone ran into the back of me. Since then, I've done hundreds of thousands of miles all over the UK without incident.

I know quite a few ex-work colleagues doing similar mileage who've not had accidents for years.

But at the end of the day, if you're not happy about doing it then don't feel you have to.

Sorry should have said, there was actually cars in the second lane, when he pulled into the second lane to undertake us they moved into the first lane.

I find it funny how you can say why didn't he move, why was he in that lane, but yet a car driving at around 100 mph is acceptable??????

I would like to be able to drive rather than rely on DH all the time, its just putting me off.

Driving in the outside lane and not pulling in 'because you are doing the speed limit' is at best foolish and ignorant and at worst dangerous.

For someone who can't drive you have a lot of opinions.:(

I suggest you do take lessons. Then you could post from a position of knowledge.

Sounds like bad tuition. You really need to take proper lessons. It will take a long time and a lot of expense but the trick is with driving is not to think you're in the right but to avoid accidents.

Sometimes you may have to be in the wrong to avoid an accident.

The real secret of safe driving is to assume that every other road user is an idiot.;)

    Because you asked for opinions

"There are just so many idiots on the road, I dont know if its just us that attract them or if we are just unlucky."

I'm sure I attract them too, but then I let them go on to annoy others.

We've all had idiots on roundabouts, people who fly down the outside then push in on roadworks, idiots on motorways, and people who don't stop on bridges or build outs.
Doesn't mean we've all hit them though.
Even if we wanted to at the time. (Although I have broke a few mirrors myself)
