eBay Seller advice...

But as i understand it to be it does 'work' as the seller stated "On putting a battery into the pager the screen comes on and the units starts to beep."
They didnt say it had a current and active service to it, its nothing like buying a car with no engine, the actual machine works, its more like buying a O2 phone that is locked to that service which is no longer available. It would only be mis-described if they had stated that it was used recently, therefore implying it would still work now.
I wouldnt be put off buying from anyone with a neg or two as as shown here different people perceive things differently, and i wouldnt expect that just because we have come to trade under the name of eBay we are all like minded.

One of my first sell's was a pager - like you mine was a BT one but mine was still in box unopened, I use pagers at work so didn't think anything of it.
When the buyer bought it and said he couldn't get it on service etc I tried everything to help and after around 10 days I said send it back and I'll refund all no problems, I think it was around £8 including P&P, I never got the pager back and I never heard off him either - that was around 6 months ago and he didn't neg me.0 -

fair comment, however, as a previous poster has pointed out, if a pager doesn't work with its native network then its useless as it cant be connected to another network, however a mobile phone locked to say, o2, could be unlocked to other networks. a pager that is no longer connected to a network is a pager that doesn't page, therefore it is pointless. The car analogy still stands as its like the OP saying, i can't drive the car therefore please make sure you know how to drive a car before you bid. The implication was that the car could be driven.
As for negs, i negged a power seller with 3000+ ve for a not as described item, for which he retaliatory negged me back saying i was a trouble maker (not that i give a monkeys as i have a seller ebay account and a buyer ebay account), and he has emailed me a month later asking to do a mutual withdraw on feedback.... so it has bugged him that he got a neg - and it does bug a lot of people if they get a neg.
if the buyer bought by paypal, chances are they will get refunded by paypal anyway, either way, the buyer will neg, to me it isn't worth the hassle, therefore refund....0 -

yup, fair enough. i've had that too - we've had a couple of possibly faulty items this past couple of months, low value, and i;ve said return the item for a refund and the buyer hasn't bothered.
However, most likely, if the OP doesn't offer a refund they will get a neg, and there is a chance as you have pointed out, even if you do offer a refund if its a low value item, they won;t bother returning it and forget about it.0 -
I am bit bored ( and probably quite fair to say sad !!) so have found the listing and if the buyer was to go down the route of paypal i believe they have to return the item at their own cost before getting a refund (may be wrong ??) if they did that they would probably be out of pocket.
Also the listing stated it was a BT pager so should the buyer not know there is no longer an available service ??
Its not a nice thing to do but if you get a neg you could always neg them back for failing to read a listing or alike, with the very low feedback score they currently have it would bother them more. (only for those evil among us

PS to the OP sorry in advance if me locating your listing has caused any offence

you're right, but forcing the seller down the route of a paypal refund will get their back up, thus they will neg you.
newbies tend not to realise that they can be negged back, and two wrongs don't make a right after all.
Saturday nights with naff all on TV are boring aren't they?? :-)0 -
I would refund!0

Don't forget... if paypal refund against your wishes, it will cost you more than if you'd done it voluntarily. My TV is broken!

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Hi people. Thanks for all your replies. I am going to wait a few more days to see how she responds to my emails. I will refund if need be. I would be miffed if I had bought it, but I still think my description was very reasonable. I only found out BT had cut the service when filed the dispute and I googled it - so I am really not trying to scam anyone.
The item was paid for by cheque and only went for a £5. I have a feedback rating of 100 and my buyer ~68
If I offer her a refund, what shall I say? Get her to post the item back to me and refund minus what it cost me to post it?0 -
I wouldn't even bother to ask for it back - just give her all the money that she paid and put it out of your mind, if you've refunded fully feedback will be safe0
