As recommended by Martin I opened an A&L current & savings account. All worked well until I inadvertently tried to take money out of the current account before it had arrived from the savings account and got charged a walloping £34 for my error. Now if that's not bank overcharging I don't know what is!

All the others banks do it too, it is illegal though, you can reclaim the charges (I did, successfully, with 1 letter to A&L)

Same thing happened to me, I spoke to a girl on A+L customer service. She refunded the money.0

Phone them up and when they only offer to refund half or not at all ask to close the account. You'll usually be put through to rentenions who will offer to refund the fee.Happy chappy0
