£8.81 Freeview Box

Just got back from Tesco and brought their Technika brand freeview set top box.
Its price is £29.97 and as well as the usual 29 Clubcard points you get 500 bonus Clubcard points.
529 Clubcard points on Cluncard deals = £21.16
(£29.97 - £21.16 = £8.81)
Sounded a good deal to me, looks like thats another trip to Alton Towers almost paid for:D .

Hello coastercowboy
Welcome to the MSE site.
I think this thread will be viewed by more people if it's moved to the 'Shop but don't drop' board.;)

And I've found that should you accidentally purchase more of these boxes than you require, Tesco are more than happy to give you a refund without taking the 500 points back off you.0

Great spot!
Can you post back re: the performance of this box. I'm thinking of getting one but have read that some of the cheaper ones can be problematical.
Cheers! :beer:This site has saved me a fortune :money: ...it's also cost me a fortune!

Have got Film Four on a the moment, has been running most of the day. Easy to set-up, scart cable included and has scart socket for VCR on the box.
Have got 3 'cheaper' boxes, the other 2 were from ASDA, the Pacific branded one has been running for almost 2 years, the Durabrand one the about 9 months. The only issue to date with these boxes is sometimes they stop responding to the remote control or the buttons on the front, switching off at the socket for 30 seconds and back on again (no power switch on box, just standby) seems to do the trick.

I have had no end of problems with cheap freeview boxes.
Current one is Durabrand and it is just about to be taken back to Adsa.
Argos and Homebase for Wharfdale ones for £35 ish. I would say its well worth spending that bit extra.2012 wins approx £11,000 including 5k to spend on a holiday :j0 -

I bought a Technica freview box about 4 weeks ago from Tescos.
It is very good as it has 2 scart sockets, one for tv, one for video.
It is better than the thompson (£80) one we have had for 2 years.
I would recommend it to anyone.Slimming world new starter 2/1/17

I have a panasonic, which was quite expensive from Richer Sounds and a pacific from Asda. I much prefer the Pacific and it performs really well (Although I occasionally have the same problem as coastercowboy which is solved by switching it off and on again).
In future I would go for a cheapy every time.I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!
I'm not losing my hair... I'm getting more head!!0 -
Hi, how did you get the £21 off....i really have no idea how this works...i mean i know i get points, but how does that become money off??? Is it at the checkout or later??
thanks0 -
I have a Phillips box (cost about £75) which I bought after getting fed up with the poor performance of the cheaper boxes. For months it was great but it's now very prone to freezing and sometimes certain channels appear to be off air. Have tried pressing the reset button etc to unfreeze but nothing happens so I wonder if sometimes there is a problem with the signal.
