Ants are eating my almost ripe strawberries, what do I do?

Had my eye on a big fat strawberry that was almost ready to eat. Promised my OH I wouldnt eat them all before he got a look in, again. Just went out to check everything and half has been eaten. Darn. Could see ants going in and out of the hole at the end. What do I do? Strawberries are on straw, under netting.

The problem is not ants, it is slugs that are making the initial hit, the ants are just taking advantage of the ready made entrance to the sweetness of your strawberry

    Put slug pellets down

There are slug pellets around the plants, but was worried about putting ant powder on the ground around them. Thanks for your replies.

Birds will peck through the netting, too, if it isn't raised away from the fruit.

I've never known ants take strawberries. Big snails & slugs are likely to be the baddies here. Blackbirds also scoff strawberries and so it's well worth netting them as soon as they start turning a bit red. I'll be netting mine this weekend....already seen a blackbird eying them up!

    2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!

I saw ants swarming over it, really seemed to be enjoying it too. I have slug pellets down and a cage well up over them to protect from birds. Noticed today that the ants have also eaten my flowers on the cooking apple tree. Were there last night, gone today and ants all over it too. Ants seem to be my biggest problem so far, even putting down Nipon along the paths and where I followed them too.
