Hi,
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced delays with their Local search results from Council, that get requested by and past back to your solicitor?
We are FTB and its been 5 weeks now since which we believe the only remaing search to take place was requested and no results have been returned as yet to our solicitor. Untill this we cannot get on with starting the exchange / completion.
It is getting so frustrating  due to it holding the whole process up, 9 weeks in total from the start. We are now going to miss the possible completion date of 11th june suggest by the vendor due to this.
Has anyone else been held up by this type of type of search from the council, and how long for?
We just really want that completion date set in stone, so we can relax a bit over it all.

Several years ago I worked in the Search Department at the Local Council and back then we had to turn them round in 10 days unless there was a huge problem!!! In fact I think before I left it was done to about a 7 day deadline. In all the time I worked there we certainly never had one take that long!!! I cannot see why, if it was sent 5 weeks ago as your Solicitor said that it would not be done by now!!!0

funny you should say this, i've been waiting nearly 3 weeks (they were due last Thursday) and my solicitors says they havn't arrived yet
normal turn around for kirklees council is 10days
i'm seeing her this afternoon to sign paperwork (without the search results......a bit worrying) and i'm hoping fingers crossed they will be there waiting for me........ever the optimist

Well I been onto my council and there are back logs and current turn round for this, they are telling me is 21 working days. Well its 21 today as it was requested on 7th May. Its a joke how long it taking but can only think it will be more than 21 working days now

This seems excessive although I know they take between 1 day and 4 weeks depending on the council. Mine took 5 working days. I also wonder why you as the buyer are paying for it - the HIP should have been done by the vendor (still in place 9 weeks ago) and the search should be in there?0

I wouldn't really know that as a FTB its all new to me lol, but thanks for pointing it out but I guess I have to trust my solicitor.0

LOL - I don't trust anyone until my property completes! It may be worth calling the estate agent and asking if there is a local authority search in the HIP....you never know. Oh and it can't be over 6 months old - they expire...so you have to pay for them all over again!0 -
Just got it off the estate agent on my phone now. really glad you brought this up as was not inform. Now waiting on solicitor to call back as he on lunch and if he dont already have it, its like why the F not! It has the local search results in it too.
Feel rather angry about it all now :mad:0 -
I was at a solicitor's last week and they have a system set up to apply/get them quickly online.
It is possible for you to go to the council offices and stand and wait for them. Get in touch with your solicitor and see if you can do this, say tomorrow, then take them straight round to him0 -
Arr just seen on the doc its the 9th june 2009 so over 6 months old. so will need to get new local search as you say.0
