How many times can a retailer repair goods?

My appologies if this has been asked before in another thread.
At the end of December, I bought a Sony TV and freesat box. However, from the outset, when watching Freesat, the screen would occasionally go black and or return with half the screen in a coloured mosaic pattern. As it was rare at the start, I stupidly ignored it. The problem got progessively worse as time went by, making the Freesat unwatchable. Comet replaced the Freesat box with a different make without quibble. But that did exactly the same thing.
I contacted Comet in May who sent an Engineer out and diagnosed a software confilct in the TV itself and arranged for it to be returned to the Service Centre for an upgrade.
We got the TV back a little over a week ago, and lo and behold, the same problem (lost picture seven times in an hour last night:mad:)
Comet are going to send another Engineer out to look at it again.
My question is this: How many times can a store send an Engineer out in an attempt to rectify the problem before it is deemed unreasonable under law and they have to replace the goods?
I am totally prepared to give them a second chance to repair the TV, however out of curiosity, I politely asked the lady at the call centre the above question and she promptly, and without any warrant, lost her temper with me, and started shouting at me about their rights to repair goods as many times as they deem fit! (I don't know where that outburst came from:eek:)
Thanks in advance for any help and again appologies if this has already been asked.

There's no legally set down limit. they can try to repair as many times as they like. it will eventuality become cheaper for them to0

Comet's policy always used to be 4 times repair before they replaced it but I think this might have changed now. Hopefully it should be fixed this time - I work for Comet and haven't had any complaints similar to this so fingers crossed they just need to flick a switch or something for you!
xxxJust started cashback-ing - makes me feel less guilty when I impulse buy!0 -
Many thanks to both Mankysteve (I really love the your username by the way - it gave me a much needed laugh:rotfl:) and to Princess Vix.
It seems that this is an important omission in the law, as you say, it would appear that they can have as many attempts as they wish to repair it, which leaves customers, such as myself, in the exasperating situtation of having goods still not working or back in their workshop for repair.
All I am after is a working television, which is, I think, what most customers are after, not the aggravation.
Let's just hope that this time they get is right.
Sorry if this sounded like a rant.
