buy a car or not bother dillemma
Options
Since I retired I hardly use my car because I get free bus travel, I only did 2000 miles in the past year.
Also it needs work done to it as it is rusting away, 4 new tires, new brake pads and shoes and is basically ready for the scrap heap.
Plus it has some dents and looks terrible. I have had my car for 10 years.
My dillemma is, do I spend money on a new (to me) car, I have £3000 set aside for one, or do I spend this £3000 on taxis when I cannot get the bus.
I use my car now mostly when I go for my weekly shopping, just because it is easier than getting the bus.
I have had a car for 42 years and cannot imagine what life for me would be like without one.
So what should I do?
I have until September before I have to decide.

Why not get rid of it now and see how things go for a few months?
You'll still have the money and can buy again if it proves too inconvenient to be without.0 -
Well you'd have more than three grand to spend of taxis and such as you've got fuel for the car, insurance.
But if you keep the car 4 new tyres and brake pads are not major work and if your only using it occasional it i wouldn't care about it looking a bit of state as long its safe.
Personal i would either get rid of the car all together or keep the current and repair. Is the car on drive/garage or on street?0 -
I left my car off the road after the DVLA medical centre had my licence for 5 months. I've been car free for 5 years now, but bear in mind you'll lose your no claims if you go for more than two years without insurance.......0
