Paypal - won't let dh register joint account

Hi there,

DH and I are a bit exasperated with Paypal: I have had an account with them for a few years, and they take the money when I buy things from our joint account, and they pay things in if I sell anything (which has only happened once!). However, when dh set up a Paypal account to receive a payment, they wouldn't let him register our joint account as it was already registered to me. When we queried this with them they said it was for security reasons; neither can he use a savings account for the same reason. How can it be for security reasons when it is perfectly normal and secure for a married couple to have a joint bank account?!!! (We don't wish to share the same Paypal account either, we do like to have some independence!)

I afraid to say that's paypal tos rules and you have to agree to them i don't think there is anyway of sorting as paypal are not based in the uk as such.
  • I think the same is true if you try to add the same credit or debit card to more than one account.

The security risk is that: if you set up an account with PayPal, using your bank information, then your details are lost/cloned/stolen and the fraudster then used them to set up an account themselves and extract money from you: you might then wonder why they allowed a second person to use the same details as a customer they already had and knew.

My husband and I have the same problem. The only we we get around it is by me sending a 'personal payment' from my paypal account to his paypal account - that way you don't get charged a fee. He then withdraws the money to the bank account. As long as you're using the paypal balance you don't get charged :j
