Help PC has locked me out!

All our PCs are networked and mine has locked me out (using son's PC at the mo) and I can't get back on. It came up with some message about trust being broken (can't remember the exact message). Hubby has tried to sort it out, but he's stumped. Any ideas?

    To suggest anything useful:
    1. Locked out of what? Can't log on to the computer? Can't log on to the network?
    2. Exact error message and steps you take to get to that message

would be more than useful, or the answer would need to be 'Just do some thing in some way to deal with your some message' :-)

Are you using XP/Vista/Windows 7? There might be a few steps that are slightly different if you're in vista/7 but this should help.

I presume your error message was the following :-

"the trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed"

Don't worry, this isn't too bad as log as you know your local administrator password. Could be something like 'administrator' and a blank password. If this doesn't work, think of what you logged on with before the machines were networked.

You will also need to change the drop down box on the login screen (under the password box) to display your computer name and not the home domain name before it will let you log on.

It's also useful to write down the name of the home network/domain. You will need this to re-join the domain.

If you can get on locally then do as follows.

    1) Right click "My Computer" and select properties
    2) If you're on XP: Select the tab Computer name if it's VISTA / Windows 7: Select change settings next to the computer name
    3) Click on Change
    4) Click on the radio button that says Workgroup
    5) Click OK
    6) restart computer
    7) Log in again and right click on My Computer > properties. In the computer name tab click on change again
    8) Change the Member of selection to domain and enter the domain name
    9) Click OK
    10) Enter the credentials of the users which is permitted to join the computer to the domain. Use your login/password that you use on the network.
    11) Click ok.
    12) Restart PC.

When the computer is restarted you can log back in to your domain with your original password/username.

Hope this isn't too confusing. If you have any trouble during the steps come back and say what point you got to!
