Engagement ring... I'm confused

I bought the ring today. It's a platinum ring with a princess cut diamond. I chose a smaller carat but a better colour, cut and clarity. Hopefully I will pop the question in a couple of weeks.
Just one question though. The jeweller gave me a certificate of guarantee but it is not very specific. It just says that it is platinum, a princess cut and the weight. Should it be more specific with the colour grading, clarity etc? In the heat of spending so much money I didn't question it at the time.
I have certificates that tell me that my rings are made of gold and the stone but not necessarily the colour and the clarity whereas I have stones that are certificated themselves. You could go and ask what the colour of the stone is..the whiter the stone the better it is and he should be able to tell you if the stone has inclusions in it (tiny flaws).0 -

My ring came with a guarantee/info card from the gemological institute of america (i know that sounds like a fake place! but it is real!) It had the cut, colour, clarity, carat etc all on it.
I presume though that getting the stones graded in this way is extra ££ so maybe smaller jewellers don't do it? But if they are claiming it is a really quality stone, they probably should go to the extra effort to have got it graded. I don't really see how the jewellers can guarantee the quality without some kind of independent proof but I am NOT an expert by any means.
You could take it to another jewellers and ask them to appraise it; if it matches what you bought it as, peace of mind. If not, you would need to have words with the original jeweller you bought it from.0 -
oh good luck marcyj!!! So exciting!! My ring certificate is only a looseish description of what it is like - (2 diamonds with a garnet in the middle - my surname),but it doesnt go into any of the details of the cut, clarity stuff- which we were too excited to even think about at the time!!
should be fine as it is. My insurer didnt even want a description - just a value!!
please let us know how it goes!!Debt free March 2010

Hi guys. I thought you would like an update.
I made a message in a bottle. I put a ribbon around the scroll (with my personal message) and some shells in the bottom of the bottle. It looked great. I hid it high up on the beach the night before.
We went last night to eat a picnic on the beach and watch the sunset. It is normally empty but there was another couple there which panicked me. It turned into a battle of wills and thankfully they eventually upped and left. The beach was all ours and we kissed and cuddled. I eventually said that I think the angels might of left her something and pointed where to go. She excitedly found the bottle and brought it back to read the scroll. As she finished I got down and asked. She was over the moon and loved the ring. We kissed, I brought out the champagne and flutes and we toasted our future. Just as I envisaged.
