Banbury to Oxford - Season Ticket

Hello all.

I feel that it is very expensive to travel from Banbury to Oxford daily by train and that the season tickets are expensive for a journey that is in the same county. Does anyone know how to reduce the cost of the season ticket from Banbury to Oxford, or a bus company that is cheaper and a more direct that Stage Coach?

Thanks:j

Other than travelling off peak (0855 and later - £5 day return) - no, there is no way of reducing this cost and there are no other buses

Move to Bicester maybe - it's a lot cheaper from there. Less trains, more buses.

Doesn't help alas - it reduces neither season tickets - nor day returns on this route as there is a minimum fare in the week

At a weekend it would reduce the day return fare to £3.30

Thanks a lot for replying. It seems so ridiculous the prices for somewhere in the same county!

Surely you understand that the price may have something to do with the distance travelled?

Whether they are in the same county or not, Oxford and Banbury are over twenty five miles apart by road.

So an Anytime Day Return at £9.70 equates to less than twenty pence per mile, and of course with a season ticket the price per mile is even lower.

Sounds like a bargain to me. ;)

I do understand that distance has something to do with it, but places like the West Midlands you can travel all over by train for £14.50 a week. That's why I was wondering why the price difference is so much!

Because West Midlands local authorities pay a hefty subsidy to the train companies - Oxfordshire probably pays zilch.
