Employer to cut my hours

Hi can you help me,
My employer has phoned today to say they want to cut our hours. I currently work 16 hours per week of which I work three morning per week.
My employer has said that the branch I work at they now want to only keep open from 9am - 11am and from 3pm - 6:30pm Mon - Friday as they are in financial difficulty.
I have been informed that they want me to job share these hours with my colleague. My colleague at present is working 30 hours per week.
To keep to the three mornings per week that I do, would mean only working 6 hours per week or if possible returning to work again in the afternoon to do the 3pm - 6:30pm shift as well. This would then mean going back home to the otherside of town in between these shifts which is not satisfacory and would mean getting home again late in the evening. I would also like to add that I have MS so really the late shift as well would not be good for my illness and only working 6 hours per week would mean losing 10 hours per week also, so either way would not be suitable.
I have worked for the company for 8 years.
My colleague that is working alongside me is thinking about handing her notice in, can they then force me to work the whole weeks shift if she does leave? and can they make me reduce my hours to 6 hours per week if they chose to do that instead?
My employer wants this solved by Friday and to start working these new hours next week.
I really would appreciate some help out there.

They cannot force you to do more than your contracted hours, they could change your working hours and offer you the new hours and if you refuse either allow you to work the 6 hours or make you redundant and hire other people.

Sorry I meant perminant overtime, you could be expected to maybe do an extra shift here and then but not on a perminant basis.The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
