wireless mouse stopped working!

I have a wireless mouse used via a dongle for my laptop.
This evening it just stopped working.
I haven't downloaded anything except updates to SAS and mbam.
Oh and Adobe but that was by using the touchpad AFTER the mouse ceased functioning.
I hate touchpads.
Anyone any thoughts as to what I can try?
The mouse is a proper Microsoft one .
I am currently using another wireless mouse I've borrowed and that works fine but I like my MS one as it is not so sensitive or heavy.
Help please.
