Either that or he/she should venture further into the wide world where they will find houses built after the 1930s as well as many built before. Although many built up to 1970s will have same basic layout as those built in 1930s.

clearly your budget does to amount to much, work harder or save longer!
In my parent's (commuter belt) village you can get a 4 bed chalet style house with 2 up and 2 downstairs bedrooms and a downstaris bathroom/loo and second upstairs loo - that's before any modernisations such as en suites
all in a 1960's build which is still standing and passing the test of time very well

All houses seem to have the same design. Kitchen, lounge & dining downstairs and 2.5 bedrooms (advertised as 3 bedrooms) upstairs. Why can't houses have atleast one bedroom and toilet downstairs which is so convenient? The 3rd so called bedroom is just a tiny study. It would be so convenient to have everything on one floor in a house (not flat) instead of having a hardly used rear garden. Also most houses seem to be built in 1930s. The thought of buying an 80 year old house is not very encouraging. New build homes are said to have a lot of structural defects. Totally confused.

Interesting point of view and a very well constructed argument.

I agree that old houses are rubbish but new houses are rubbish. Best to live in a house that is neither new nor old but maybe constructed in the future? Therefore it will never exist and would be perfect.
