decent hardcore is welcomed on freecycle.
the rubbish rubble is best bagged and taken to the tip. a few trips in the car is cheaper than a skip.
    Get some gorm.

At the cost of a new set of shocks and springs! ;)

It costs me £6.50/ton to buy the stuff (cleaned of all/most plastic, wood, metal etc)

So long as you don't overload car and distribute the load well (preferably over the rear axle) then lots of runs to local tip. We don't bother with bagging it..we put a few big flexible buckets in the back of the car, shovel rubble into wheelbarrow, wheel to car, transfer into the flexible buckets (would be too heavy to carry full). The buckets also protect the car interior and contain any creepy-crawlies. Have a spare bucket for at the tip to transfer. I do however save bags that sand/ballast/gravel etc come in for if i want to bag anything up as they are far stronger than "rubble bags" on sale in diy stores.

Another tip (though probably a bit late now) is bury it! Only last week i dug out a cable trench and refilled with rubble..putting the topsoil elsewhere in the garden. Saved a couple of tip runs..plus saved me importing topsoil.

Another suggestion if the car transfer is no good is that you can often hire the services of a grab lorry (often offered by skip companies)...pile up all the rubble out front and they come scoop it onto the back of the lorry. Not done this myself but i recall my parents doing it once. Some of them charge by time i believe so you might pay for as much as they can grab in half an hour or something. Works out cheaper than skips but relatively expensive compared to other methods of disposal.

theres about 3ton of the stuff maybe more, would take me all year to take it to tip.the trouble with geting someone out of the paper you never know if tthey will just fly tip it.will try ebay/freecycle first but exspect i will have to have a grab lorry to take it
  • I would put it on your local freecycle/freegle first. It usually goes with people taking it for shed bases etc. You may be able to take it to the tip yourself, but in Gloucestershire you are restricted to only 3 bags of anything that can be classed as building waste. The site workers ALWAYS check what you are tipping and they have numberplate recognition cameras. You have to pre-book trailers above 6'x4' regardless of what waste it is carrying - and they wonder why fly tipping is at an all time high. I believe a lot of other counties have similar restrictions. You could try a man with a van, can often be found advertising in the local paper, but make sure they have a valid waste transfer licence as you can be liable if you knowingly use someone without one. Some DIY sheds sell one tonne bags that you fill and then phone a number to arrange pick up. If you go down the skip route, ring lots of companies for quotes, even those a bit further away, as there can easily be up to £50 difference in cost. Make sure you are clear with quotes as to whether VAT is included or not, will make a big difference to what you pay if you are quoted ex. VAT.
  • Cheapest method is first using up what you can, maybe as the drainage layer for a rockery, raised bed or a terrace if necessary. If you can stack it and the time it takes to get rid of the pile isn't a problem you can advertise it locally as free to collect, put a sign outside saying "free rubble" and also offer it on Freecycle type places.

I take a few bags (of subsoil) to the tip/recycling centre weekly. Yesterday I came back from there with a veg container and a nice garden chair!

Blimey..your tip rules sound a bit OTT cabbagewhite!

My Dad used to use a neighbouring london borough's tip instead of his own as their rules were less stringent. He needed a resident permit to use the alternative tip so used my grandparents one. He used it for several years after they had died too..until that tip also changed it's rules!
