Paying by credit card?

A friend of mine has recently got a cashback credit card and therefore pays everything he can with it, he even manages to pay his council tax with it:D.

He pays about £1500 a year for his gas and electricity, DD £130 per month, so would get £15 cashback a year, as he says, every little helps.

Is there any company that would let him set up a payment system using his credit card instead of a DD and still give him a DD discount?

Probably not, because they are charged around 3% by the card issuer-far higher than debit card charges.

I am looking into this too, I know with some companies such as Vodafone you can make adhoc payments using a credit card and then the DD amount is adjusted accordingly. This is as long as you make the payment far enough in advance of the DD payment date.

I am wondering if any of the energy companies have payment systems which allow adhoc credit card payments while a DD remains setup (to maintain the discount when paying by DD). Obviously their systems would need to adjust the DD each time an extra payment is made.

Has anyone had experience of this with EDF or other utility companies?
