Strange bank question

Right this may sound strange but any info and help would be welcome.

six weeks ago i paid a bill at HSBC on a credit card for £1,000 the dozy clerk pressed enter twice so sent to my card £2,000. The bank after a week paid me the money back from there funds, but the extra 1k is still in credit on my credit card. The bank are now saying they want there 1k back but are not putting on any pressure they send me an email about once every two weeks asking nicely if i have had the chance to ring the card company and get it credited back to them.
My question is i suppose do i have to pay them back? as i ahve not signed anything to say i owe them any money.....

You owe the money so do the decent thing and pay it back.
The next thing to happen will be right of set off.

Your question sounds like one from a troll.

If you are not a troll (and even if you are), you know that the £1K sitting in your card account should be returned to your bank.

Lol they will get annoyed if you don't give them the full amount they will demand for that £25 and they would also have in the terms and conditions about being charge for phone calls. Also i would not really bother as you will make things worst.

You've not explained why you've had to make calls on this matter. If you've been contacting them to correct this matter then ask for a payment. But, from the OP you've not lifted a finger to correct this.
