Travel insurance - renewed without permission.

On a recent credit card bill I was surprised to see an annual travel insurance policy renewed without my knowledge or permission. I didn't think you could do that?

The policy is with Travel-insurance-web.com is the company. In fact I took out a single trip policy with them because I didn't need an annual one! They got my money twice!

Now of course it's more than 14 days after the policy start date and I don't know if I have a right to a refund?

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I'd check your documentation for last year. They may have "assumed" you would want to renew and set it up automatically. Quite a few companies are setting these up and you have to 'opt out'. I know it may be too late for this one, but worth looking for in the future?

On this one, I'd get in touch with them and see what they say...

Even if it is to late under the cooling off limits and they can prove you didnt "tick a box" (or the like) I think there is a good chance they will refund the lot or pro rata a refund (which I think they have to do under FSA guidlines - less any "reasonable" fee).

They can do if its termed 'continuous payment'. This is what the likes of RAC and AA do with their annual membership fees and also as I discovered Tesco car insurance do. Besides keeping your card details on their system for ever, it also is a bit underhand just trying to presuade you not to go elsewhere. I would ring them up and have a bit of a go, and cancel the policy if you find it cheaper elsewhere
