HP DV2000 Laptop GPU Overheated Problem.. Blank Screen!!

This is a long shot but maybe someone could help!
Our 2 year old HP DV2000 laptop has always got very hot. So hot we had to have a fan running next to it to cool it down.
It has now stopped working.
After doing some research on the internet it seems the GPU has got so hot that it has disconnected. It now will not boot up.
Here are the symptoms:
- When press power button, it sounds like it will turn on, but then the screen just doesnt show anything.
- No Windows start up noises.
- LCD screen is lit up, just black.
- All LED lights come on.
Cannot afford a new laptop right now, so does anyone know how to fix this problem, or had a similar problem?
How much would something like this cost to get fixed??
I think the GPU needs to be resoldered back on, this sounds like a big job??
Thanks.
