Tiling Quote.

How much should I expect to pay for tiling a bathroom. The floor is approx 6m2 and the wall area to be tiled is approx 20m2. The wall is slightly complication from the fact that it is not one big wall, but a wall with a recess plus shower area (something like below). I have used one of these trader websites and surprising the two quotes I've had come back so far are both at £550.

Ye olde wet finger says that, on a site unseen basis (BTW your image / drawing (?) doesn't show), £550 is about right for an ROM price.

My ballpark would be around £25 per metre for ceramic, plus any preparation work. If its a timber floor it will need overboarding so this would be an additional expense and i'd also advise tanking the shower area to prevent water ingress. Beware of the quote your job blind websites and the guys who are all rounders - my experience of the quality of work from both can be poor, best to get 3 quotes from tilers who will come and have a look at the job.0

£25-£30 per square meter seems to be the going rate, but here are a few questions for all you tilers out there!
- Is £25-£30m2 just for labour or does it include materials like Grout, Adhesive, Spacers, etc?
- If the above includes grout, adhesive; what knid do you use?
- Is this just to tile or to remove old tiles and prepare the surface for the new tiles?
- Does this price vary on the type of tile being applied?
One of the DIY chain retails an Adhesive and Grout (Apparently suitable for all applications) where as the tile speciatlists offer products like BAL Grip and Microban Grout, which are more expensive but appear to be far more superior and apt for the task.
Again, I look forward to hearing all responses as this is important to consider when given a quote that the layman would think is a bit steep.

- If the above includes grout, adhesive; what knid do you use? Adhesive is usually Topps own for trade, grout would be BAL as i mainly buy from topps and they sell BAL its got a good name but there are equally as good if not better out there - thers is also a lot of cheapo rubbish out there as well.
- Is this just to tile or to remove old tiles and prepare the surface for the new tiles? Tile only, prep work can sometimes take days, can be priced at day rate or a whole job price - i tend to price worst case and make the customer aware as its not nice asking for extra money part way through - beware of cheap quotes.
- Does this price vary on the type of tile being applied? Definately, standard ceramic is cheapest as its the easiest to work with. Some stones and porcelain require sealing, stone is wet cut only so slower.
