    Hi
I love staying in the lakes and use https://www.smoothhound.co.uk to find accommodation. Sometimes the prices are slightly out so its best to check directly but it brings up alot of the smaller B&B's. Alternatively we also use https://www.laterooms.co.uk who tend to be quite good.

    Hope that helps :D

What about joining the Youth Hostels Association (they cover families and its not all dorms now) There are some fab ones by the lakes. (Normally about £50 a night for a family room)

second that but would say that you need to budget about £15 for full breakfast for 4 people (2 adults 2 kids). Or you could take your own stuff and do breakfast yourself.

Has the added advantage that there is usually space for kids to run around, often a games room and your kids normally meet other kids if weekends / holidays.

Downside is normally bunk beds !

Bed and breakfasts are usually the way forward, especially if your children are old enough to share a room away from you. Start looking on the tourist board website and get phoning around: http://www.golakes.co.uk/accommodation/lake-district-bed-and-breakfast.aspx

Edited to add: we usually stop in B&Bs, but not near Beatrix Potter, so can't recommend anywhere specific.

    See tripadvisor reviews.

A little out of the way so car needed.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

I've stayed in the Albert (Pub) in the centre of Bowness before and that was £25 pp inc' breakfast last year.

Perhaps a bit expensive for you but there's a lovely new place that's opened this year, at http://www.kendalcottages.com (it's a self-catering apartment by the river in Kendal)

Try the web site holiday rentals, they have a good selection of cottages at a variety of prices and you can see which cottages are available easily.

Bowness on Windermere has some good B&B with parking spaces . Like gold dust in the Lake District.
