In call alert device

I am after a device that will show to the world that my phone (land line) is engaged, I would like a visual device like flashing lights that will show the people in the room that I am on the phone so they can keep it down a bit;)

I tried searching the net and some call centre suppliers but nada.

how about a red 'engaged' light along the lines of the red 'on air' lights they'd use at radio/tv broadcast stations. by far the simplest fix would be to put in a switch and manually flick it on/off as required.

for an even less high tech fix a big cardboard sign saying 'quiet' made from an old ceral box but thats probably less eye catching....

Sorry to not make it clear, I need an automated device, Blue Peter solutions are out of the equation for various reasons.

Is the phone one with a physical hook? If so, could you open the case and attach another pair of wires to the switch, and hook that up to an external relay controlling the power to one of the previously mentioned on air lights?

No, can't open the phones, I am looking for a purpose built device and money is no object.

I honestly think that you may need to DIY it, I can't see that/how one could easily be made. What sort of phone is it we're talking about? Is it a desk phone or DECT/wireless?
