Growing hair quickly

Hi again, the last time I went to have my hair trimmed, about three weeks ago, she cut about two inches off the length when I only asked for the ends to be trimmed – so annoying! I had just grown my hair to where I wanted it so am upset. Anyone got any ideas of how I can grow it again quickly? Its not layered or anything, I just need to grow the length about two inches to how it was. I am taking some tablets from Holland and Barrett for stronger hair, skin and nails. I currently use Simple shampoo and conditioner (I have sensitive skin). Would maybe getting some professional hair products help more?

Assuming your hair grows at the average rate, it'll be back to normal in four months (less since you've already been growing it for three weeks). I think you're doing all you can- the biotin supplements do help keep your hair healthy, which makes it look like it's growing faster. Otherwise all you can is take good care of it to avoid any breakage, i.e. be careful when brushing or tying back and always condition the ends.

Good luck with it, I've grown out my hair lots of times from very short to very long, and time does go quicker than you think. In future it might be an idea to trim your hair yourself- it's relatively easy if you have a simple hairstyle and no layers to worry about.

i have noticed that at the end of brushing if you tip your head down (like bowing down low as if to touch your toes), and then brush your hair that increases blood flow to the head and can help hair growth. i suggested this to a friend who has a boycut and she felt a diifference in about 2-3 weeks.

I haven't heard of that tip but will definitely be trying it out!

OP- bizarrely I wrote an article a few days back on growing out hair. It deals more with growing out very short to long hairstyles but may be useful for you or anyone else who's in the same situation:

Hi, thanks for the tips. I do trim my fringe myself inbetween having the other trims and now colour it myself to save money (and I prefer the condition of my hair with the home colourants). However, I am nervous about trimming the length as I can’t see round the back, how do you do that?

Would you think it worth investing in salon shampoo and conditioner, would that help more?

    Good protein rich diet
Daily exercise to get blood pumping to the head
Biotin/silica/kelp supplements are thought to increase growth
    scalp massages

And..basically taking really good care of your hair to minimise damage. Which is likely to include cutting out heat and harsh chemicals. Do Deep treatments at least once a week.

I had the same problem, luckily my hair grows pretty quickly anyway but I know alot of people swear by Sea Kelp tablets, sometimes people complain it makes their hair grow too quick and costs them a fortune in hairdressing bills.

What I do is wash my hair, grab a small section at a time, pull the hair taunt and put my fingers in the shape of scissors across where I want to cut, then cut beneath like a hairdresser would do. However my hair is quite long so it's easy enough for me to put strands from the back around to the front. It's doable with a decent mirror, but if you're nervous I would definitely ask a friend to help you. If that's not possible, it's time for a new hairdresser! A hairdresser who thinks two inches off is a trim is a pretty bad hairdresser imo. There are plenty of skilled hairdressers out there who will listen to you, it's just a case of finding them (although I must admit, I do tend to watch what they're doing, just in case communication has got lost somewhere- at least then you have a chance to stop them cutting off more than you want!)

As for salon products, my opinion is pretty divided. I find they do leave my hair feeling nice, but the best shampoo I've ever used is a 99p Boots own brand! Maybe stock up on some samples before buying as they are often expensive, and expensive doesn't necessarily mean better. I think if the Simple products (which I find are really nice, and I also have sensitive skin) make your hair look and feel good, continue using them- but maybe treat yourself to a deep conditioning treatment on occasion.

Hi, thanks again for all the tips and advice. I have been in this situation before and its so annoying. Once your hair starts growing you don’t notice but when its first been chopped it seems like it will take forever. I am now wishing the next four months away just to get my hair back to how it was!

I have heard that sea kelp is good, do you think they might be better than the ones I have already got from Holland and Barrett.

Regarding hair care, I must admit that when I went to the hair salon I bought products from them, shampoo, conditioner and hair treatment and at first my hair looked brilliant but then after a while it started looking limp and greasy so I went back to the Simple stuff and my hair looked a lot bouncier and people commented on how healthy it looked. But now I am tempted to go back to the salon stuff which I can now get online just to see if it helps my hair grow quicker. I know I will buy it and still end up going back to the Simple, I need to be firm with myself really.

To have my hair trimmed I go to a walk in place that changes about £6. The first one I went to was really good and did just take off the ends but that was in another town when I was meeting my friend so this time I went to one in my own town centre and whilst the cut is OK, she just took too much off.

Does anyone know of any good hair treatments if I don’t turn to the salon stuff again?

I think hair growth is genetic. I always thought mine was due to eating so much fresh fruit and vegetables- even when I was very malnourished with anorexia (got very bad) my hair continued to grow quite fast (however weakened it was) hence why I thought it was the fresh fruit & veg, but my father who wouldn't know broccoli if it hit him over the head has also hair that grows fast. I don't think theres an awful lot you can do but if you did want to try a few theories there are ones on exercise helping, protein intake helping (eggs, meat, fish, nuts, beans) sleeping well and drinking enough fluids every day.

Or you could just treat yourself to some nice hair things and enjoy some summer updos until it grows. There are some fantastic videos on youtube for hairstyles.
