Try http://childcarefinder.direct.gov.uk/childcarefinder/ for info on childcare provisions. You can read their ofsted reports online.

Only certain provisions will allow you to access reports online, mostly nurseries and preschools. Ofsted only identify childminders through their URN numbers, she can't view their reports unless she has their urn's (i.e. interviewed them and requested it).
All over the place, from the popular culture to the propaganda system, there is constant pressure to make people feel that they are helpless, that the only role they can have is to ratify decisions and to consume.
