Wedding Booking Price Increase

Hi everyone.

We booked and paid a deposit for a 2011 wedding location a few months back. Since then the new 2011 brochure has been published with increased prices.

The 2010 brochure which we booked from does state that bookings more than a year in advance are subject to price changes but the size of increase has left us shocked.

The increase comes in at 43.75% more than the 2010 price, which seems an excessive hike in prices for nothing extra!

We are meeting with the hotel wedding coordinator but I'm unsure how to tackle or approach this with her. Obviously the brochure states that prices are subject to change but 43% will hurt our funds by quite a chunk.

Any advice on how to tackle this would be appreciated.

You agreed to the terms and conditions presumably. You've said yourself that they clearly stated that the price could increase.

    That's what has happened.

Yes it's a big increase but that's what you agreed could happen when you booked. I doubt you have a leg to stand on.

That's what I thought and yes the term and conditions she posted to us clearly state "estimates can only be given for bookings more than a year in advance".

It angers me though as the 'estimate' was wildly out they have us over a barrel now. Deposits are paid for numerous things and the chance of finding another location for the same date are slim.

Stress levels will be through the roof when we go see them!

I'm quite sure you're talking out your derriere, as it can easily be argued that a % increase of that amount is far from reasonable.

I would be asking them to justify the increase, and show you calculations on what has increased by nearly 44%!!

    Is pulling out an option?
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I would agree with the above.

Have the venue actually confirmed to you that you will have to pay this higher price? or are you just preparing for the worst?

Sandoval, many companies have clauses in there contracts saying that they can change the price. Sky for instance. This doesn;t mean that they can could double a price of the service and people locked into the contract would have to pay. I would argue this would come under the Unfair Contract Regulations.

Pulling out at this stage all depends on if we can find another suitable location, the options are limited in this area and the other location we liked is now booked for our chosen day.

Re-reading the terms and conditions it does state its an 'estimate' which is subject to change but from my Google searches this doesn't appear to be binding in any way.

The increase doesn't provide any other services to us and is part of the reason I'm struggling to come to terms with the 43% figure.

I'd push for a FULL breakdown of why the costs have increased, and if they can't justify it, then insist on a reasonable inflation increase i.e. 3%. Be assertive and firm with them.

If they won't play ball, then start looking for something else. You shouldn't be forced to pay such a huge amount, and I'm sure a small claims court would also see it in your favour...
