After seeing the thread regarding obtaining contact details from car registration numbers.....
If it were possible to trace the owner of any vehicle for free on the internet, would it encourage us all to drive with more consideration for other road users? and to take more care not to damage cars while parking (for example)?
I think it'd be a good thing!

But in turn, the amount of vigilante retribution squads would infinately increase. You just cannot be on the same road as some people without them being offended, and not to mention the 'stalker' element when you see a nice lady in traffic:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Please don't be offended if that opinion differs from yours, but feel free to click the 'Thanks' button if it's at all helpful!0

No, it would be a nightmare. Your car parked in an airport? Nice, I can go and burgle your house (having got your address for free) as i know you're not at home.0

^^ Never said it was perfect :rotfl:
Anonymity is however the primary reason that people choose to drive like idiots.....“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

People who are idiots generally are the primary reason folk drive like idiots not anonymity.0 -
You see that good looking blonde in the next lane.........Got her address.........stalker
Some idiot cant drive..........Got his address..........slash his tyres The best one
As mentioned........parked at airport...........lets go and rob him
It all breaches my human rights and somewhere along the lines health and safety issues, not sure what they are but there will be some.I all have learnt is from others on many sites.
Seek legal help if unsure.
Dont pay Private Parking tickets - they are mere invoices.

So perhaps you'd like to explain how not being anonymous would help? 3 million drivers per year were caught by speed cameras.
And what would you do in my case where the car is in my name but there could be up to 3 different people driving it? And what about a company car where you could potentially have hundreds of different people?0 -
They do this it Switzerland IIRC, they have the equivalent of a phone book that lists every car reg and it's owner."One thing that is different, and has changed here, is the self-absorption, not just greed. Everybody is in a hurry now and there is a 'the rules don't apply to me' sort of thing." - Bill Bryson0

I was on the receiving end of road rage last night for the first time in my life. I made a mistake, hands up. On a country road near home there's a narrow bridge; one lane wide so it's a 'give way to oncoming traffic' place. Trouble is, people coming the other way are coming round a bend and in summer, when the greenery at the side of the road is overgrown, the visibility is atrocious. So I moved onto the bridge, then someone came. I should have stopped and reversed back off; they were barrelling towards the bridge at speed. I thought I could floor it and finish crossing in time but we met on his side of the bridge, where the road had narrowed so we could only just get past each other.
The other driver moved out to the middle of the road in front of me so I couldn't proceed forward, then came in next to me at an angle (so I still couldn't move forward as the back of his car was in my way), wound down his window and just screamed at me; you have to give way to traffic coming this way, you'll get someone killed etc. As I said, it was my mistake, I should have reversed back to the give way line so I don't blame him for being angry. He really scared me though. Luckily he didn't get out of his car as I don't know what I would have done. I am seriously relieved he has no way of tracking me down from my reg.0 -

Hope its only online, can you imagine how often such a tome would need to be updated, the Swiss may be destroying more trees than the argentinian cattle farmers.
Anyway I dont think its a good idea as stated in pre posts.0
