How about those of us that know nothing about football? Are we welcome to join in for a bit of fun or would it ruin things?

You can even get them to pick a team at random for you if you want.

Have you put up a team?

    Heavens no.

    My team:

    GK: Stekelenburg
Def: Moore, Bocanegra, Cannevaro, Carragher (I had trouble with the last one, additional research needed).
    Mid: Kaka, Malouda, Alonso, Cole
    Strikers: Torres, van Persie

    Is Van Persie fit?

Oddly enough I had just started watching "The World's Greatest Players" freebie DVD that came with the Sunday Times when I read your comment. Here's their top 20 players if you need some inspiration to pick a team:

    20. Buffon (GK, Italy)
    19. Villa (Fw, Spain)
    18. Cole (Df, England)
    17. Lahm (Df, Germany)
    16. Ribery (Md, France)
    15. Maicon (Df, Brazil)
    14. Robben (Md, Netherlands)
    13. Essien (Md, Ghana)
    12. Gerrard (Md, England)
    11. Schneider (Md, Netherlands)
    10. Iniesta (Md, Spain)
    9. Casillas (Gk, Spain)
    8. Lucio (Df, Brazil)
    7. Torres (Fw, Spain)
    6. Drogba (Fw, Ivory Coast)
    5. Kaka (Md, Brazil)
    4. Xavi (Md, Spain)
    3. Ronaldo (Fw, Portugal)
    2. Rooney (Fw, England)
    1. Messi (Fw, Argentina)

The only blatant omission from this list, imho, is Milito the Argentina forward who won Inter Milan the Champions League. However, Maradona really doesn't like Milito so he'll probably be on bench warming duty in South Africa.

Well he spends all day running up and......oh, I see what you mean.

Probably although he's not really my type. Some say he looks like a younger version of me only not as good looking. I don't see it myself.

Are the points awarded just on goals made. Im thinking since England is in an easy group then two england strikers to start would be best and so on
