I've worked in a customer service call centre before (for Hoover). Part of the job is adopting the mindset that every call you take will be negative - no one is happy when their washer breaks! But the opposite side is the thank yous when you sort their problem out. In my case either by telling them they needed to do x or managing to find an engineer who could do a last minute slot for them.

Something that has been hugely beneficial to me, has been doing different courses so I can them apply them to RL, so a customer service course running - does your employer offer training- may help you with the job you are finding difficult. The best thing I did though was a self awareness/self development class -it made me more aware of me as a person, which in turn helped me be a lot calmer and less inclined to stress/panic/anxiety/anger. Would something like this help you? Mine was ran by my local children's centre.

the saying goes 'it's easier to find a job from a job' so I hope you can make this work whilst you seek something else.

    Good luck.
  • Are there any data entry type jobs near you? It's still pretty boring but at least it's not likely to be customer facing.

Have you considered retail? They don't always require previous experience, especially for part time positions.

You can get some difficult customers but people tend to be easier to deal with face to face. There's something about being on the end of a phone that makes some folks think they can talk to you any way they please. Especially if they've had to go through a frustrating maze of touch tone buttons to speak to an operator in the first place.

But I think that whatever job you do, you will always come across "difficult" folk, whether they be your customers or colleagues.

Most hotels are on a fairly continual lookout for housekeeping staff. It can be pretty physical, but you'd soon get fit!

Would you consider being a dishwasher/kitchen porter for a hotel or restaurant? You'd be on your feet a lot and it's not the most interesting work in the world but a lot of chefs would be willing to take on someone with no experience if they think you'd be a hard worker, you'd probably get a share of the tips, you'd never have to deal with customers and if you're interested in cooking it can be a way to get a foot in the door and you might be asked to do a bit of veg prep or similar simple tasks. You'd also probably have to work nights depending on where you worked but some people like this (I personally love driving home at 11pm when there is no traffic on the roads!).

You'd also have the satisfaction of knowing that the restaurant literally couldn't function without you :D

When I did data entry as a student, the managers acknowledged how boring it was so let you take an ipod or similar which really helped the time go by quicker!

If your speed or accuracy dropped they would take the privilege away, but I don't think anybody's did.
