Please can we have a "Don't know" option in this poll?

I'd suggest the narrow one closest to the grass verge0

Hi, I was a commercial driver until about 8 months ago and spent a lot of time in traffic jams and I have spent many many hours studying which lane is best, obviously this can depend on wether the queue is there because of an accident (and a lane is closed) or wether it is just volume of traffic, but I have found that it does not matter which lane you are in, if you are in a jam for 30 minutes when you get to the end you are usually surrounded by the same vehicles as when you joined the jam.
The only differance is that a few drivers will have swapped lanes to try and jump the jam a little and I know this does them no good it just stresses everybody and slows the jam slightly.
So after years of sitting in traffic jams I now see it as an opportunity to relax and if someone wants to push in front of me then I accept that at the end of the jam they will be setting off about 5 seconds before me, but I can live with that.
There is nothing I can do about traffic jams so why should I worry?0 -
Depends on the nature of the jam. If it's moving slowly I tuck in the left lanes behind HGV's because they tend to drive to maintain momentum rather than the harsh stop start of car drivers.
If it's sheer volume then the right hand lanes because car drivers can get through the tolls far faster than those paying at the attended booths.
It still amazes me the number of drivers who drive up to the toll booth and only then realise they have to pay and scrabble for coins. Muppets. The man without a signature.0
