This is a fantastic and free interior design program, it works on both windows and linux. Scale drawings aren't a problem, however I tend to agree that the old school method is best!"Live each day as if it were your last and garden as though you will live forever"

First, check its not covered under permitted development - you may not even need planning.
I'd ask your CAD guy again if need be! I'm a CAD technician and a CAD drawing for planning for a conservatory will take an hour or two tops. I do a lot of planning drawings and they really don't need much detail. Mostly what they're interested in is a basic idea of the size, shape and location and materials to be used in the construction - only basic info really.
You'd be surprised at the amount of planning drawings I do for various developments where the elevation drawings are based entirely off me counting bricks on photos :rotfl: Planning aren't looking for 100% millimetre accuracy - just the best you can do and as accurate as possible to what will be installed.
Failing a CAD guy to help, buy some paper and a scale rule. Nice mechanical clicky pencil, take your time and it won't take long.
As mentioned above, 1:100 scale is usual for plans and elevation views - put the paper size on! ie, 1:100 @ A3 or whatever your paper size will be, that way people can tell if the drawing has been reduced to print on a different size etc. With a scale rule, you can simply work off the 1m indications given on the 1:100 side of the ruler.0
