Each supplier has differing codes of practise, search their website for their own terms. If a gas main leak problem search Transco or your independant pipeline service provider .
If your loss is over their quoted compensation rates you may have to threaten and go through with a County Court action.

Thankyou for your reply, im not too sure which company i should be contacting.... the work is for united utilities being carried out by a contract firm, ive contacted U U 10 days ago but havent received a reply as yet, and Im not thinking i should contact National Grid, as they only came out to survey and amend the situation, they was not the cause of the incident.0

Who do you pay for gas ?0

at the moment with npower, just followed the advice for switching and should be saving myself about £65 a year by moving to British Gas.shammyjack wrote:Who do you pay for gas ?
The problem has nothing to do with npower, as the gas pipe was the main one that feeds the estate. United Utilities have been replacing the sewerage pipes and have had contracters digging up the road on their behalf, and they went straight through the main gas pipe!0 -
OK, sounds as though yours is not a new site with Independant Gas Pipe provider so you should claim initialy off NPower and also contact Transco .0

But why claim off Npower? they havent caused me any loss... I was evacuated out of my home for over 16hrs (4.40pm - 9.15am) although i received a phone call just before 1am saying that i was able to return. (on returning at 8.30am morning after I had to wait until 9.15 before the gas fume levels within my home were safe enough). I incurred extra expense on having to find alternative accomodation, travel expense, telephone calls, meals etc, as well as my other half having to lose a days income. Im thinking it should be United utilities or the contractors they have working for them.shammyjack wrote:OK, sounds as though yours is not a new site with Independant Gas Pipe provider so you should claim initialy off NPower and also contact Transco .
do you know of a template letter for claiming compensation anywhere?0 -
As with shops, retailer first. Unless United Utilities own the gas mains in your area then Transco would be next as UU are just their contractors , UU probably subbed the work out to the guys who cut the main .0
