Questions for the Scottish Power Representative
Over the last three years I was a customer of Scottish Power. Two weeks ago received an annual gas and electricity statement.
The price for the next 12 months 1,748 pounds.
Consumption of gas 9,008 kWh, 1820 kWh of energy.
I've looked at all these current price of gas and electricity consumption is 700 to 800 pounds per year. Scottish Power was also cheaper for me as a new customer.
Last week I received a final bill for the energy, the amount of 92,53 for the period 07/04/2010 to 16/05/2010.
I think this is a far too large amount. Especially with the account is only for energy. Waiting on the final bill for gas.
Where can I get the explanation of prices and bills? I am interested only contact via letter or e-mail. Unfortunately, I have a bad experience in solving similar situations via phone.
Is the default option is to send us a payment reminder for next month on the 2nd day after sending the Final bill?
That situation realizes me more convinced that Scottish Power is not the control over they system and someone has to verify.
Regards
Martin

Hi Martin
Thanks for your question.
You are right to query this annual charge for the next 12-months as this seems well out based on your annual consumption figures. Do you have a large outstanding balance on your gas account? It could also be that an incorrect meter reading has been updated on your account which has confused our annual consumption figures for you.
In relation to the electricity bill - have a look at the meter readings used on the second page of the invoice. Are the start and end meter readings estimated (do they have an E after the reading)? Are the start readings estimated and the final meter readings accurate (are they close to what is showing on your meters now)? It is possible that your electricity consumption has been estimated for a period and we obtained accurate meter readings in May which has created a catch up bill which makes it look like you have used a large of amount of electricity in a short amount of time. This of course would not be the case and you would have used the electricity over a longer period of time only we were underbilling you previously.
If the annual consumption figures you have given are accurate (9008 kWh and 1820 kWh) then your combined annual charge would be around £576 based on our Discounted Energy tariff (based on you living within the ScottishPower area). Check the link below for more details on this tariff and specific unit rates depending on what area you are in:
http://cww.css.scottishpower.plc.uk/css/products/pricing/current_prices/Discounted_Energy_August_2011.pdf
I have also attached a link to our new website which has a number of useful guides to help you understand your bills, payments, taking meter readings etc.

Reminder letters are issued after 14 days of non payment then a further 7 days. If you want me to look into this for you then send me your details (privately) and I will confirm what has happened with your account and also how much gas and electricity you have been using based on accurate meter readings.
If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
Kind Regards
