my mother has just sold a property in spain and is coming back to the uk, the money from the sale, in euros, will be paid into her bank account and she has been told that it will cost £80,000 to convert the euros to sterling, is there a cheaper way to convert her cash or buy a property in england using her euros etc. any help would be appreciated

Somehow I think she's misunderstood/misheard. If it really is that much she's seriously rolling in it and €80,000 is trifling small change not to be worried about.
