Wonga problems.

Hi,
Me and my husband got a Wonga loan last month as we were short of cash for petrol etc. The problem I then had was that for the second time in 2 months (since opening the Wonga account...!) I had money stolen from my bank account. So I cancelled the cards associated with the account and then asked Wonga for their bank details to be able to pay their loan off that wya instead of having to give them my new card details...

That was all fine, I would pay the loans off using the bank details I had for them on the date it was due. But then, I read a post saying that they can still take a payment from a cancelled card as it is pre-authorised, cancelling the card won't stop it.

I phoned my bank (lloyds tsb) who confirmed this and the guy actually said in 99.9% of cases a payment would still be made to these kinds of places even where the card is cancelled or expired!

The loans are due on the 8th- the day we are paid. So I cannot pay the loan a day early as I won't have the funds, and I cannot extend the loan as I have to pay 20% of the loan (£26) as I extend!

Payment is taken between 6am and 8am, but can be taken earlier they say so I can't even get up early to extend the loan or pay it off!!!

I have tried emailing them but I get no replies. My husbands account has now become "locked" as he tried to change his email address with them but it asked him security questions which his answers were apparently incorrect on (ONCE!) and now he cannot get onto the website to extend OR repay early!!!

I want to extend his loan for another month as we don't really have the funds to pay it this month, you can extend for up to 30 days, but they have taken that right away by locking the account. And despite me trying to contact them I get no response (I wont phone as I then dont have anything to show what has been said unlike in email!!! Also it is 10p per minute from a BT line!!!).

If I had £26 I could extend my own loan which would help alot, but I simply won't until the 8th but Wonga won't listen to that! My bank said to say the payment is unauthorised IF it does go through on the cancelled card as I have emailed them to unauthorise payment, but chances are I won't get the money back and will just be stopped from getting a Wonga loan in future!!!

does anybody have any ideas at all on what I can do with this??? Will the payment go out of the bank? And if it does will I have a leg to stand on with the bank as I have emailed Wonga numerous times!? I dont want to make two payments by making payment via their bank account details, and then them take my card payment, I also dont want to have my right to extend taken away from me!!! :(

Any help???

What I did when I had problems with them is kick up a huge fuss about it on here, within hours a manager phoned me and sorted out the whole problem. As you've already kicked up a fuss i'd just sit back and wait, failing this, phone them and demand to speak to a manager. Hope this helps

Seeing as tomorrow is the 7th, and the loan is due on the 8th, could you not get hubby to get £30 out of his bank, put it into your account and then you can extend and prepay the charge tomorrow? That way it's all done and dusted for the 8th?

Mine and hubbys bank is the same, we have a joint account and all money is shared between us both if that makes sense. I have tried lending money from my mum but she is also skint until the 8th!

I know it doesn't really help your problem.... but be aware that if they do take payment from the cancelled card, it may never be refunded to you. A company I had dealings with many moons ago, took an amount that was in dispute from my debit card simply because I had once payed them with the card, therefore giving them permission for eternity apparently, even though the card I had payed them with was over two years out of date, the bank allowed the payment to be authorised, and when I demanded the money back because the payment was in dispute, they told me to take it up with the company that took it! The bank did not help at all, needless to say, I no longer bank with them.

    1. This company has not stolen from you. You authorised these transactions in their terms and conditions.
    2. Cancelling the card, as your bank says, will have no effect, because it is pre-authorised. You have basically given them a free reign to take the monthly payment, and if funds are not available, they will dip in when they see fit to take what is owed to them.

It's amazing how many people use companies like this, when they rarely will have the funds to repay the loan, then come here once the money is taken by the PayDay loan company, saying how it's so unfair.

You gave them your bank account details, canceling the card wont stop them withdrawing from your bank.
if you have internet banking you can cancel DD's online, thats what i done when i couldnt pay my phone bill untill the next day

I don't understand why you "simply won't" extend your loan until the 8th?

Phone Wonga to unlock your husbands account.
Will the payment go out of the bank?
Don't know, you could wait until 08:00 to find out either by asking your bank if the money has been taken out or by phoning Wonga (I know you said you won't phone them, but is it more important to possibly pay twice or miss a payment or to run the small risk of having someone make a mistake over the phone); this would then give you the rest of the day to make a manual payment if it hasn't been taken.
And if it does will I have a leg to stand on with the bank as I have emailed Wonga numerous times!? I dont want to make two payments by making payment via their bank account details, and then them take my card payment,
You won't need to worry if you wait
I also dont want to have my right to extend taken away from me!!! :(
From what you've said you could extend your loan online whenever you want. Your husband could presumably extend his loan if he/you were prepared to talk to them over the phone, or if he unlocked his account using the phone and then went online.
    Any help???
    I don't know, was it?
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

It is a pity a lot who come on here do not do that, but alas, such is modern society that the friday takeaway pizza, weekend bottle of wine, trip for the kids to McOffals etc etc are now seen as essential and not luxury's. We tried an interesting experiment a couple of years ago after watching a TV program, we decided to live for a week on the minimum we could without resorting to scrounging etc, it was amazing what you can do, some fresh veg, a bag of spuds, eggs, spam, and some cheap cuts of fish fed a family of four for £35. We then examined our normal weekly spend and realised that we had been on average spending over £60 a week on stuff we did not need and in some cases did not use. The average family throws 20% of its food away. Conclusion is, look at your lifestyle and double your disposable income.
