Recommend me a good Baby Monitor

We are looking for a baby monitor for our upcoming baby.
It will need to have a video & audio. However it has to be a SECURE WiFi/radio/2 ways to stop people snooping to it.
The video has to be very clear during the daytime & night time because I will need to be able to see its movement as I would not be able to hear as I am deaf.
Can anyone recommend me a good baby monitor? Our budget is about £50 but can increase it to £60 if it's better. Not bothered if it's brand new or 2nd hand as long as it works.
Thanks,

I have the angelcare one with movement monitor and sound.. Remember quite often when a young baby wakes up they don't move around, just make a noise....however the majority of monitors have a light display which show when baby is making a noise. Both the ones I have had (although no video) show more lights the louder the baby is crying.
Are you a member of any deaf groups? It may be better getting a recommendation from someone in a similar situation to yourself, or ask the local HV if they have anyone they could pass your number to that is deaf to see what they went for.
HTH & good luck with the new baby.0 -
Have you tried searching for a vibrating monitor?
My friend is a nanny and has one of these for when she is looking after babies with older kids too. She keeps it in her pocket and when the baby cries it vibrates so she feels it even if the older kids are making too much noise for her to hear. She is also a VERY heavy sleeper and keeps it under her pillow so it wakes her up in the night. All comments and advice given is my own opinion and does not represent the views or advice of any debt advice organisation.

I think the idea of a vibrating one is a great idea, I also agree with pigpen about the angelcare sounds and movement monitor, I have it too and its great and it also vibrates when the baby cries and you can set it to vibrate if the room gets too hot or cold and also if the baby stops moving. They are about £80 new (i think) but you should be able to pick up one on ebay for half the price.
Hope you get something that suits you0 -
Thanks for the replies, everyone.
The reason why I wanted video is because I would not know how much noise I would be making when I make my way to check up on the baby (i.e. floorboard creaking, door opening, etc) as I would not be able to hear that and cause the baby to wake up from my noise.
We do have a baby monitor that vibrates when the baby cries, but the monitor picks up any other noise too, so I don't want to keep checking at every vibrate so by having a video, we can see if we need to go up and check up or not.
Hopefully this make sense?- Tony Sutton0 -
from a noise point of view I would not worry about the noise you are making. If you make noise around the baby from an early age they will get used to it. I have always put clothes away whilst our children are in bed & it is very rare that they wake up from it.
I would say video & lights is the way to go, so you can see how loud they are from how many lights they are lighting up - even if they are facing away from the video.0 -
Thanks will have a look around.- Tony Sutton0

Make sure it's a digital one or the interference will drive you mad!!!0

The last time i checked (circa 2 years ago) the angelcare monitors were analogue and subject to quite bad interference.
My friend had one they loved but when they tried it at ours it was constantly picking up noise from(i guess) one of the neighbours monitors.
The best ones at the time were digital (100 channel+), would vibrate, had a silent setting (just lights indicating level of noise) and had a detachable "parent" unit that could be moved about (e.g. clipped to your belt in the kitchen, garden, etc.)
Some also had temperature monitors, night lights and feeding timers.
We ended up with the tomy digital platinum (@ circa £70) and the only thing i didn't like about it was the battery in the parent unit got a bit shoddy (life expectancy) after about 8 months.
Personally didn't like the idea of the camera units so discounted them out of hand (is a vibrate / light "noise level" indicator suitable instead of a camera?).
O and kids go very quiet sometimes (pretend to be dead) and frighten the brown stuff out of you - i suppose in some ways you wouldn't suffer that phenomena.0
