All radiators cold at the bottom

I noticed today that one of my radiators was luke warm at the top and actually cold at the bottom. On checking the rest of them, all of the radiators in the house are the same.
Do I need to get the plumber out?
Thanks

How long had they been on for?
It it had been for ages, then it could be sludge in the system.0 -
Dont hold me to this, but when it happened to me, there was to much air in them, so I had to let it out. They were better after.Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.0

Thanks for the replies.
It seems that the heating wasn't on when it was supposed to be on, and then it was on after it's supposed to be off (and rads seemed hot enough when it was on). Appears to be the thermostat causing the issue, as the light is on on for battery replacement. I put new ones in and still the same, so have someone coming to take a look. It's within warranty, so hopefully easy to solve.Love MSE, Las Vegas and chocolate!0 -
Why do you have your heating on? It's summer!"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

:rotfl: The temperature is up and down here at the moment, so it's on for 30 mins a couple of times a week......Love MSE, Las Vegas and chocolate!0

Air causes the rads to be cold at the TOP. Sludge causes rads to be cold at the BOTTOM.
It sounds like a progammer/timeswitch issue. Either it's faulty or incorrectly set up. Alternatively, it could be a motorised valve, or a divertor valve it you have a combi boiler.0 -
It may simply be that the heating isn't coming on for long enough for the whole radiator to heat up - they will warm at the top first (unless there is air in it) and gradually warm down the radiator - if they are only coming on for a few minutes at a time they may not get that far.
Try forcing the system to come on (turn the thermostat up to a higher temperature) for say an hour and see if the problem persists.Adventure before Dementia!0 -

Thanks, it's a wireless timer, and it was replaced about 9 months ago, as it was faulty then...... I think it might need replacing again by Baxi, but will wait for my boiler man to check it all out first. He can check that it's nothing else before I ring Baxi. to replace the unit...Love MSE, Las Vegas and chocolate!0 -
Could also need a powerflush?:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things.
