Hello,
I've been looking for an appropriate current account for students in the UK for a while but you have to be a UK resident to be able to open one. How do foreign students do then? I'm leaving Belgium in September to study in London and can't find any account made for people like me.
Could you help me?

as an EU member you should be able to open an account normally, i think0

Non UK residents will get a basic account with no lending facility.
The days when everybody got student accounts and credit cards have long gone with most banks.
Is there any reason why OP could not open a student account in Belgium?0 -
Just pop into your local HSBC or Barclays branch and they will usually give you an account once you have shown them your passport, just dont expect a overdraft facility for 6 months0

HSBC have a specific section on their website for people who are studying in the UK but not resident. http://www.hsbc.co.uk/1/2/personal/current-accounts/passport;jsessionid=0000pmVghHGplbdSjOQOx2SZzU6:11j71ffl3 This seems to be a paid account though so there are almost certainly better options0
