Landline Number for applying CC

Hi all

I'm planning to apply for new credit card mainly for purchases. So was looking at Virgin and AA. Both the companies ask for Home Landline number as mandatory. I know they will use this info for verfiying my home address. But I havent got a home number but only mobile. I'm on the electoral register.

Do you think they would automatically reject me if i input my mobile number in home number as that won't be a valid landline number?

Has any one applied just by inputting mobile number in home landline number field and successfully received the card.

is there any other company that provide better card for purchases without asking the landline number

I dont want to apply and get rejected because of this and cant get any further credits, you know what i mean.

Thanks

I have always used a landline number that is not registered to me or at my home address and this is yet to cause any problems. I would put your mobile or work number in the field.

Landline numbers are not mandatory for any application and do not form any part of ID or address verification. The only thing that's mandatory is that you put enough random digits in the space provided or if you really want to give them a number then put your mobile.
I open/close card/bank accounts with great regularity and always select random digits as the landline option and put my true mobile number as the 2nd option.
  • Most companies ask for the Home Number but what they really are asking for is your 'Primary' Number. This CAN be your mobile number. Infact if you add a false number this could sway them to decline your application and NO number will reduce your credit score.... be honest and try not to beat the systems, take it at face value if in doubt and be honest! (They know more than you think :0)

That's not true, telephone numbers have nothing to do with a credit score, it's merely there to act as a point of contact for you. You will not get declined due to an incorrect number.

I applied for an AA loan about four years ago and they called me on both my home number and work number to verify. Although it might have something to do with only being in present employer for four months. As my new job involved relocation I had to move and therefore was not on electoral roll. So probably used as an ID check
