Best time of year for Double Glazing Quotes?

Options
Hi all

My flat has old aluminium double glazing half of which are now full of condensation so its definitely time to replace!

Is this a bad time of year to get double glazing quotes? I seem to remember being told its best to do it over the winter months as there is much lower demand? My finances are pretty tight so any potential money saving is worthwhile!

Many thanks

I would hazard a guess that after New Year is good-no demand, no cash and cold weather!
Remember that you should be able to halve most installer's first quotes.

Stick to the small local companies rather than pay towards national company advertising budgets. Winter/spring months your likely to manage to get a better deal as the glazing companies like to ensure their fitters have a constant flow of work rather than having to lay them off. Though if it's a flat with not many windows whether it will make a huge difference on the final price i'm not sure.

I would avoid any company who suddenly drop the price by a huge percentage when you put on pressure for a lower price ..the sort macman suggests!

Its always worth haggling but the best companies stick by their price (because it wasn't inflated in the first place!). As for when, Jan/March is often dead for the industry, however in October 2010 windows will by law need to be C rated.

Whilst its true, many comapnies already offer C (or better) many dont, and may demand more money.

The other point is the VAT rate is likely to rise. Today the PM, said we will all be affected, that sounds like VAT will increase, and very soon.

I wouldn't hang arround if its something you really want to do.

Buying quality goods which last, should be an investment that saves money. :T
Buying cheap products which fail, wastes money and costs twice as much in the long run.
