""have done that loads of times"" ~ ditto ~ but !
There are a few OEM lappies that have BIOS limiting .. .. .. [ licensing agreement ] that stops you changing the O/S, even from, for example XP Home to XPPro. The O/P did'nt state the Model / Brand, and even if I knew which one it was I'm not sure I would remember which ones they were.
Having said that 99% will be ok !Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Hi Richie,
Agreed. I kind of hope that if they supply drivers to roll back that there may be no limitations.
Darich, if you're happy stick with it but know that you could roll back.
I do a lot of photography and video podcasts and I get a great response from showing my work on the iPad. If most of your work is print it probably won't help.
See ya

Yeah the bios limiting thing is a pain.
According to the place I bought the laptop I should be able to adjust the amount of graphics memory. But I can't access the bios to do that. I also think that the video card (ATI HD3450) doesn't have that facility now that I've owned the laptop for a while.
Ipad looks pretty good but I don't show my photos that way. I do amateur stuff and sell prints and canvases. I've done a couple of commissions but nothing huge. If I got a regular income then I might consider something like the ipad but until then I'll stick to my Canon 5d and the computer!!

Take a step back,
Vista has a perfectly good~for~purpose inbuilt ' back up facility ' and USB sticks / external HDD are cheepo.
If your HDD is % taken up with photo work transfer it all to an external source for cheap money, free up your internal, clean up and de-frag the system and you'll have faster more responsive O/S.
If the stuff hits the fan you can GoTo square one in 3 coffee's and your important stuff is always safe. It should be archived in at least one other place anyway !
NOTE1 : Vista is a pig, but like any pig it can be house-trained.

Microsoft through Digital River had/has direct links to Vista/7 for download. Not a problem as it was for the licence you paid. From there is it easy to construct a bootable disc. I made my own that way. With a little knowledge, you can create an auto-activated OEM disc for just the purpose you describe, though the retail disc should work with your serial key.0

5d is a lovely camera, do you use the Mark II as I'm considering it for next purchase.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

5D is a great camera. I’ve had it almost 3 years now. The only thing it does is show any limits of your lenses. Thankfully the only non L series lenses I have is a 50mm prime, 15mm fisheye and a Tamron wide 17-35mm.
I’d love a 5d Mk II but until I either sell a shot for enough to pay for the new camera or I get a regular income it’s difficult to go spending £1800 on a camera body.
I thought about selling my 70-200 f2.8L which I hardly use but it’s such a good lens I’m reluctant to get rid of it even though it’s rarely used.
The laptop issue is not a huge problem but it will be annoying if it needs to be recovered and I then have to install Norton, games, and various other packages/programs that I don’t want, and then have to immediately uninstall them.
Someone at work suggested getting my laptop set up the way I want, then getting a program to make a “ghost” of the hard drive. Then use that ghost image to recover my machine if the need arose.
What programs would be good for that?
Any thoughts or recommendations?
Thanks
D
