Y'all might just like to check out two small inconveniences known as Part P of the Building Regs and Edn 17 Wiring Regs before you start putting electrical appliances in this type of environment.

    Cheers

Can anyone give me any sort of a rough idea how much I would have to pay to
    a) get existing shower/toilet/sink ripped out
    b) build a 3ft partition wall to separate the toilet from the washer/dryer - and half height shelf for dryer to sit on (washer to go below)
    c) fit new sink/toilet
    d) plumb washing machine fittings in and electrics for the washer/dryer

I think that sounds like quite a good plan - if I can get it done fairly cheaply.

    Thanks

£ 750 - £1k and make it a cupboard witha door for compliance. A 3ft partition won't do. Had you thought about putting the washer and drier or alternatively a combined washer/dryer in the garage (if you've got one) and retain the shower?

    Cheers

Can you elaborate? If the washer and dryer were in a partitioned off area with a door, would that be ok? Advice much appreciated?

Nope - no garage. And have you seen that shower  - retaining it is not in my plans.

When I say 3ft partition - I meant depth. Full height. Does that make a difference. And I would like doors in front of the dryer/washer etc.

Does your place have a garden?

Why not get one of these:

Cut in a vent and run in a supply with and RCD and Bob is a member of your family.

I would just rip out that shower & put a stackable washer with a dryer on top.

I don't think its gross at all.

I would rip out the WC & basin too & replace with new (those are gross).
When its all new it will be lovely.

Once the shower is removed, the room will cease to be a shower room, and no special wiring regulations will apply. Extending an existing circuit to provide new points will not be notifiable to Building Control.

A toilet is not a special location. Electrical items must be suitable for their location so don't mount an ordinary socket/switch somewhere it is likely to be splashed.

Putting the machines in a cupboard is not necessary and would be irrelevant.

I would suggest a smoke detector in the cupboard, linked with others in the house - it is not unknown for tumble dryers to go on fire.

I think I've got a full four-piece suite that matches yours.

    In the cellar.

We have a 1250mm x 1500mm cloakroom and filled the 1250mm wall with washer and dryer double stacked and a full height cupboard next to them.

By putting a corner toilet in the opposite corner and basin by the door then lots of room (more than the original toilet in middle of 1250mm wall and full sized basin).

I beefed up the ventilation because the tumble dryer is gas and provided power via an extension attached to the socket on the other side of the wall with a power breaker.

Gas engineer and building regs were happy with this approach.

    Hi All,

We're about to move into a new house and the one thing that's really bugging me is that I have nowhere to put the tumble drier! We have four kids, so let's just say that although I dry outside all summer, I will need it to be back in use come the autumn.

I was wondering whether you all think it would be possible for me to do something with the current downstairs wc/shower room. I don't have the dimensions - but its a small square room which currently has an ancient corner shower and a wc next to each other on its back wall, which should give you an idea of size. (Can't be move than about 6 ft square)

First up - is it gross to have a tumble drier in with a toilet?
Secondly - assuming it isn't - how would you lay the room out for best use. I'd like ultimately to put the washing machine in there too - stacked under the drier - but there's an integrated one in the kitchen so until that dies we're ok.

I'm going to go and try and work out how to post a picture now - so would be grateful for your thoughts. And, oh, I DON'T like this....

    Thanks all
