Have a look on www.kayak.co.uk - a good flight search engine. Regsiter for search bands of a week, otherwise you can only search one day at a time.

    Also try http://www.canadianaffair.com/

and don't forget Quidco - when you've found a good flight price, don't click through Kayak, close your browsers and go via Quidco. May only get you 1-2%, but it is better in your pocket than theirs!

Rather than going via US, going via European hubs may work given rising value of £ vs Euro. Otherwise you may want to look at flying to Seattle.

Vancouver is a superb holiday destination. Should still be fairly warm in September.

Any other tips you want - don't hesitate to ask. My avatar (that crab) is the fountain at the front of the HR MacMilllan Space Centre in Vancouver! Probably the best photo I have ever taken!!

I seem to suffer from jet lag going out to Vancouver due to the time difference. Coming back, the flights tend to be overnight, so if you can sleep, all the better! Melatonin tablets are supposed to be good at preventing jet lag. Buy them at your health food shop.

Agree Vancouver is fab. We flew with BA and they were reasonable a couple of years ago.
It's not that cheap though once you are there for hotels, food and drink.

It's not that cheap though once you are there for hotels, food and drink.

It probably isn't very cheap now - only 1.50 CAD to the £!!! (because Canada has largely escaped the global recession).

12 months ago it was in the 1.90 to 2.00 range, so you are looking at 30% inflation just from the exchange rate.

Food was good value last year.

Alcohol isn't cheap anywhere in Canada, due to price controls.

Hotels probably look pricey in Vancouver itself right now, however on our last road trip we never paid more than £120 (Jasper) per night for a double room and one of our best nights was only £40 (Clinton). Vancouver we paid £80, Whistler £70. Jasper and Banff were most expensive. Jasper hotels are expensive and poor quality generally. Banff hotels are expensive and very good.

Jet lag affects different people in different ways. What you can expect is -
Flying there - You'll be awake at 4am for the first few days. Try to stop up as late as possible so you sleep in.
Flying home - Night flight, as mentioned above. You'll get home mid morning. No matter how tired try to stay up for the rest of the day. Flying East kills me. I'm up in the middle of the night for about a week after...

Melatonin tablets don't work with me. They're easy to buy over here though. Best thing to do when you get here is to head to the nearest pharmacy and buy the strongest stuff they have to knock you out. It's almost certainly stronger than anything sold in the UK

But don't let jet lag put you off! Vancouver is on my "to do" list

I have heard - and will be trying it in September - that if you change your eating pattern to their time zone your sleep will follow and you will settle in alot easier.
