Floordrobe sizes 10 through to 18

Wow, I have never started so many threads in my whole life as I have today LOL.

Over the past four years I have gone from a size 10 to a size 18. This has left me with oodles and oodles of clothes, mostly in binliners with the stuff that fits me in the wardrobe.

I know deep down that I am unlikely to ever see any smaller than a size 16 again but I just cant bring myself to part with the smaller sized clothes "just in case I lose weight" although I know deep down that is not going to happen.

The clothes I have aren't designer, or ebay type resellable stuff like Next or Oasis, it's cheapie stuff like Tesco or Matalan so I dont think it would be worth my while e-baying. Even if it was, due to just having one car and local post offices closing down, I'd only be able to get to the post office on Saturday mornings, which as a buyer I don't think I would be too impressed with, especially if the auction finished on a Sunday.

I know that getting rid of the binliners would create an awful lot more space and make the bedroom look better but I cant bring myself to do it.

Get rid! Today! If they're not worth your while ebaying, take them to one of those recycling points and shove them in.

Even if you lost weight, you may not lose it in such a way that you will be the same shape as you were before. So size 12 trousers might have fitted you previously but if you lose enough weight to get down to a size 12 again, you may find your bum is a little bigger than before but your waist is a little smaller iyswim, so the clothes may not suit you as much as they did previously anyway.

Also, losing weight usually means you feel good about yourself and you'll probably be tempted to buy something new to wear and you'll not wear what's already in your wardrobe even if it did fit you.

If there's anything you particularly like, maybe keep that but get rid of the rest. It's old baggage. Free your wardrobe! :D Clutter holds you back mentally, take the bags out the room and tidy it...see how much better you feel. Then don't put the bags back in! ;):D

If you really really can't bring yourself to get shot, get some spacebags, put all your clothes in there and stick them in the loft. But it's best to just get rid!

get rid - give them to a charity shop imo

then if you did lose weight then you have an excuse to get a newer wardrobe

im slowly losing weight down to a 14 in most clothes now and i have given a lot of my clothes away, buying new stuff from the likes of primark, ebay or charity shops then it doesnt seem like a huge cost to get new stuff
i recently splashed out and got a new black dress from debenhams £36 it cost me but it had been reduced from £80, its a 14 and slightly tight around the boob area but not too tight that i cant wear, and its a style even if i did get down to a 12 its still very wearable

Any clothes swaps in your area?

I'd go through them, put the cheaper stuff into matching outfits or as job lots on ebay with the auction due to end on a Friday (if you've an ebay account, and want a few quid for them)
Or do a car boot sale, good opportunity to get rid of any other junk lying around the house at the same time.

I'd keep anything I really liked and would wear again if I lost the weight.

  • Right, I am definitely going to go through the stuff now and have a look and sort into charity shop pile and e-bay pile. E-bay (even with postage) still seems to work out cheaper for 2nd hand clothes than charity shops so I'll have a go with a few of the nicer pieces. I think it just seems like a defeat if I give up

theres always freecycle, that way people have to come to you to collect - less effort (not that i am lazy la la la). pity u arent near me i could use some new clothes but we are skint lol

why not get rid of the 10,12 and 16 and use the 14's as motivation?

You could do Ebay and end your auctions on Thursday to give people time to pay and state in bold in the auctions IN BOLD that you only post on Saturday's.

    I'd still bid.

What I hate is waiting day after day for the postman and then when I enquire what has happened to my item, getting an email off a seller saying i've been away or am able to only post once a week and it never mentions it in the auction.

    It's the not knowing!

I've had another idea to minimise what you keep. You could keep a capsule wardrobe in each size if you are having trouble giving it all away. You know like Gok Wan's show.

That way you'll only keep the best of the best and make sure what you keep has to match with at least one other item you keep.
  • Do a carboot, you'll be amazed what people buy if you price it right (50p - £1 an item or even 3 for £1 if you just want to clear it), and I'm sure you'd find some other stuff dotted around the house to take along too.

I personally would do a car boot.

Ebay is ok if you don't have lots of stuff and know you are going to get a decent price for it. When you have lots of stuff listing it can take ages, plus once you've taken out the fees and charges for Paypal it all means less money in the end.

Even if you sell most things for £1 or £2 at the car boot it's money in your hand. You can even take the opportunity to have a proper clear out and take a load of other unwanted things with you at the same time.

Don't keep hold of them - there really is no point. If you were to lose weight and get down to a size 10 again would a lot of the stuff even be in fashion or would it look dated, plus as aliasojo said it might not fit you the same anyway. Fair enough there may be a few pieces that you would like to hang on to but I would just get rid of it and use any money made to treat yourself or buy some new stuff.

Firstly go through & see if any items have any Ebay value. If so, get them on, marking your text as "I Post on Saturdays Only".

Then keep a capsule wardrobe in each small size, Freecycle the rest, then charity shop any that don't get taken.

In my experience within a few years the clothes will not be right even if you slim back down into them. You could keep some of the nicer things that you really like and think they won't date and maybe all the 14's and charity shop the rest - gift aid and you will get a letter to see just how much good you have done.

I have gone down 2 sizes and am wearing jeans that are 4 to 5 years old and they feel really dated - those that are older have really high waists!! I am going to persist with them as it is my intention to go down at least 2 more sizes, but I have bought some newer ones despite having 6 pairs!
