which is the better scottish power deal- a little advice please

Hi all

I have been checking through the comparison sites, and have found that Scottish Power offer the cheapest option. However, there are 2 different accounts at the top 2 spots, and would appreciate a few pointers before I sign up.

Firstly, it says that the online energy saver 9 dual fuel could be removed at any time. Does this mean that I can change to another Scottish Power account when it is removed (online energy reward account?) or am I locked into the saver 9.

Or is it safer to go for the Online energy reward account, even though the price is higher, but it is capped- as it will not be removed?

Also, if you move house before the end of the cap do you still have to pay the cancellation fee?

Gosh, I have confused myself!!

Any thoughts, pointers are much appreciated.

Best Wishes x

I am currently going through a switch to Scottish power and I chose the Energy reward tariff. The cost difference in my area between onlin 9 and energy reward was quite small and I banked on prices going up rather than down between now and July 2011. Even so the saving over my Npower tariff was about £100.
One difference to note is that on energy reward you have to wait until next june to get the £105 reward whilst on online 9 you are getting the savings spread out during the year.
Your question on online 9 possibly being withdrawn, that would only apply to new customers, if you are already on that tariff you would remain on it.
Not too sure on the moving house question but morally I would think the exit fee should not apply.

Edit; just looked on SP website and exit charges do not apply on a house move.

They are offering £130 cashback to new Scottish Power customers who take both their gas and electricity from them through Quidco (i've been looking for my son). Would the £105 reward be on top of the £130 cashback?

Yes the quidco cashback is seperate to the energy reward £105 which is part of the tariff, so you should get both.
When I started my switch on May 6th the quidco was only £62:mad: but I was desperate to leave Npower.

Energy reward ties you to a yearly wait for £105, al la N.Power. OL9 dosent, though their is a penalty for switching before 11 Months for the first year.. I switch about a month ago, as i was offered £130 direct from SP, no waiting for Quidco. Try typing you name in to SP website, they night call you as they did me, but this was 6 weeks ago.

Thanks ever so for all your help. Was going to go through I have just checked out quidco- brilliant!!! An even bigger saving!!

One final question, it says that Prices fixed until 31 July 2011 for Energy Reward, but Under the Online Energy Saver 9 Offer, prices are guaranteed to remain below ScottishPower’s standard monthly Direct Debit gas and electricity prices until 31 March 2011. Even though Saver 9 is slightly cheaper now, as it is not fixed, do you think it is more cost effective to go with Saver Reward. ...

Thanks again. (Is my first posting, and think it is GREAT to get such super advice!!! ).

Yes you have raised one of the problems. As there is currently a big difference between online 9 and their standard tariff they could in theory raise the price of online 9 tomorrow, and as long as it still remained the set percentage (2%?) below the standard tariff they would be within the contract terms.
Another likely scenario is if prices fall then they would reduce their standard tariff but not online 9, still maintaining the 2%.
That is one reason I chose energy reward, I know what my bills are until July 2011. But if prices fall I may lose out but as stated above I do not think online 9 would fall anyway.
