Rent advice concerning council tax needed

Just wondering if someone could help, I'm a full time student and am moving in with my girlfriend next month who works full time. Basically i'd quite like it if i could have just my name on the contract so that my girlfriend doesn't have to pay the council tax, so i was just wondering if there would be any problems if we were to do this?? Obviously i know the landlord would have to be aware that a second person was living there, but any further advice would be greatly appreciated

The names on the contract are of no relevance. It is who is living there that matters. If you wish to comit council tax fraud feel free to go ahead but don't come here complaining when you have to pay the whole debt in one go.0

I seriously hope you are trolling and this is not an indication of the intellect and honestly of the next generation of graduates! Of course there would be problems, you have to fraudulently sign a form to declare you are the only resident and you would be evading tax. Two offenses right there.
Even if your girlfriend's name is not on the AST she IS still a permanent resident and IS still liable for council tax. The council can easily find out - your girlfriend's name should be on some bills, bank statements coming to your address, the inland revenue would have her home address for income tax .... or the council can simply watch the comings and goings.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
The legislation is quite clear that resident partners are to be regarded as equally liable as each other on the 'hierarchy of liability'.
You would be disregarded as a student and your girlfriend would be liable irrespective of her name being on the agreement if she is resident wih you.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0
