Amazon/Royal Mail lost in post

i ordered a camera 10 days a go off amazon. so i rang them up to see where it is and they have deemed it as being lost in the post.

I had expected the camera to arrive before now for a holiday.
They have reordered the camera now.

Is there anyway i should be in line for some sort of compensation,
not in a legal sense, more as a customer care policy?

I assume Amazon will have proof of posting so you would be chasing the Royal Mail for compensation.
All I have ever got from them is a half arsed apology and a book of stamps (twice)

i rang parcel force and they said it was up to amazon to hunt the parcel as although it was said to be in central hub, it was still under amazon's control..maybe someone will be able to better explain the logistics of it cause i ain't sure.

The fact is i needed the camera on a certain date, they said it would be there by then and it isn't!

Legally, unless you told them that in advance and made it part of the contract I don't think that'll be relevant. But as you say you're looking at this from a customer service viewpoint rather than legal.

Unless you paid for express delivery at every point of the order process and even the tracking afterward it always says 'Delivery Estimate' so the delivery is only guaranteed if you paid extra for express.

I doubt that you are inline for anything - how long have they told you that it is likely to be before you receive the camera now? Some companies say that it will be weeks before you get a product so at the moment your timeframe isnt really that bad - although I do realise that you were expecting it earlier and havent received it as yet. Did you pay some postage? You could see if as a goodwill gesture they will refund the postage - either that or you could cancel your order? It would be upto Amazon to claim from the courier anyway I would of thought.

If the camera will arrive too late, could you cancel your order?
In my mind you would be in the right - not sure legally, but I'm sure there will be someone on here who could answer that.

    update on it.

After ringing and speaking to the manageron sat he pormised it would be dispatched on monday at the latest and he would personally look after it.

It now wed and the order is still holding waiting for payment(which has been made over 2 weeks ago, he has obviously forgot to mark it as being paid)

So its well over 2 weeks no and despite promises from the manager that it would be sent asap, its still not.

Don't wanna cancel order cause it s apretty good deal.
Even still its some seriously shoddy customer care!

Contact them again? Is it such a good deal that you wouldnt be able to get it at that price anywhere else? I would give them another few days and if it hasnt materialised contact them again. Either way when he said that it would be dispatched on Monday - monday was a bank holiday!

Sorry he said it would be dealt with in warehouse (A note would sent to priortise the order) and it would leave first thing on tuesday.

Phoned today, was told he would contact me back and i would be likely to see delivery this weekend at best!

There is no-where doing it as cheap.
    So i can't really cancel.
