Basically i'm undecided on an Xbox/PS3, but that's a separate issue.
When i finally decide on which to get, i want to know if you can have this setup....
Where our TV is, it'd be awkward to have a console connected to it, so i want to know if you can connect it up to a PC monitor without having to mess about with the cabling everytime you want to switch from using the monitor for the PC & then have to switch the cabling back when you want to use it for the console.
Or is that the only way to do this?

Hi K_p83
My son has a 15" flat screen TV which he has his Wii, Xbox 360 Cable TV and PC connected to so it can be done.
If you only have a PC monitor the standerd VGA conector wont take the SCART/Yellow, Red, White pins.Debts as of 01/june/08

What connectors do you have on the monitor? Some monitors have dual inputs (VGA/DVI), and a button on the front to switch between the sources, so you could have the PC plugged in one and the X-Box plugged in the other.
The thing to remember is that you'll need a separate sound source and a suitable cable. If you wanted to connect the X-Box to the VGA input, you could use something like http://www.cyberselect.co.uk/product/1157 which comes with RCA connectors for audio. You can get similar cables for DVI I think, but remember a straight DVI-HDMI cable won't carry audio, you will need to get one that has separate connectors for the audio0 -
you need to tell people what connections you have on the monitor and TV for that sake
if its HDMI eqipped then you could have the console a fair distance away0 -
On the current monitor i know the answer will be no as there are 2 connections:
1. mains
2. labelled D-Sub which connects to the base unit.
I'm considering a PC build & would be buying in a new monitor.
I've just bought a 22" LG TV/monitor (model M2262D) & while we're waiting on Sky being installed, i'm trying it out as a PC monitor for now. It's got a whole load of connections on the rear. http://www.lg.com/uk/it-products/monitors/LG-lcd-monitor-M2262D.jsp
I'm not saying that i'll be buying another M2262D when i make my PC build, but i could buy a similar one as i don't think i'd be going 22" for the PC monitor. Perhaps 19". Whether it's LG, Samsung, Panasonic etc wont be decided on yet until i start buying hardware in.
It was just a "can you" question really. At the moment, budget depending, i can buy a monitor in for the job. Any suggestions?
As for HDMI, i keep seeing this term but know nothing about it tbh.0 -
HDMI is just like PC DVI but also carries audio
this is the connection thats best for you and will be the simplest
your xbox (if it has it) and PS3 can hook direct via HDMI and job done (if using the TV/monitor speakers)
your LG has 2 HDMI ports
heres a pic of a 360 with HDMI (the smaller of the 2 ports on the left)
I wouldnt go smaller than 22" for gaming0
